While it's certainly possible to form a manga team on the nets, it's pretty hard. Pseudome forums have seen tons of such requests, and I don't think I've even seen one that worked out. Got any real-life friends that can help you?
And for the record, not to beat a dead dog over the head with a stick, but introducing yourself that way is not the way to get people to work for you. For one thing, lotsa people (as you've seen) are gonna be pretty insulted. (There is no "I" in TEAM, but don't give me that crap about there being a "ME") For another...um...lots of people on this forum are a lot better than you. And your line "I have been drawing mangas for most of my life and it is nothing to me." is like...Shindo Hikaru saying how he'll "win a few Go titles." Some people here are actually passionate about manga. And they've been practicing and working harder and longer than you...and some (I think I speak for a lot here) have tasted bitter failure more that you can imagine.
anyway, back on track.
Doesn't TP set people up with teams (Psy-Comm)? Like, if the interested individuals are good enough, it probably doesn't matter if they have collaborators, right? (You don't need a letterer if you're working for TP)
Oh and critiques? Your drawing is average because you really have no exception points or detail in your character designs, and especially in backgrounds; you seem to only draw the bare minimum. It looks like there are some parts (like hands? clothing details and accessory-ish stuffs?) that you don't like to draw. Take more time on details; there is such thing as too simplistic if I can't even tell what's going on (background are GOOD). Your lines are all the same; it looks like you just traced your pencils with a tech pen or something. Your anatomy is flawed, and in some instances, in unacceptable ways (joints, limbs, torsos). Your sequential art is too stiff, confined, and the pace is too even (unvaried) because the panels are all the same. |

There's probably nothing wrong with being self confident or having a good ego, and you most likely will need those assets for the hundreds of times that forces come at you to try and shatter your confidence. (it's just the life of an artist)
You seem to have a very good attitude for the buisness world but to attract other creative collaborators playing the part of a humble artist is far more effective. (at least in my experiance). _________________ I like to make comics!

| Poor guy. They really nailed ya to the cross, huh? Well, it's your confidence that caused me to look at your DA account, so that earned ya abrownie point. Unfortunately, your style isn't my personal preference. But I will fav ya. I wanna see if ya get better, or if this thread really did knock ya down. Hope ya find a good partner (they're harder to find than you might think!) |

It is good to have a healthy dose of self confidence. I'm glad to see that you've balanced that out with some humility as well. These things are most important to an artist.
I just wanted to remind you that you still haven't told us what kind of people you're looking for. Did you need people to specifically ink, do pencils, tone, letter or did you just need a few jacks of all trades? This is what I was trying to get at in my first post.
| Wesley Campbell wrote: | | Well S-sama, I did say that my work is done completely traditional. The fact that you said am good is compliment enough for me (even with your sassy attitude). |
This one was not being sassy. You want to be a true professional manga artist. Then you must act like it NOW. You can't wait until you get a job with a manga company to get your pro supplies. You need to do it NOW. They are not expensive, not at all. If you don't have a lot of money, then save up until you can get them. Call it an investment into your future. If this is what you really want to do then you have to take it extremely seriously. Listen to what other more experience artists are saying (tentopet, actionjackal, mako, and pseudome for starts) and ask them questions. Study mangas, especially the succesful ones. Not just the genre and story, but the layout of panels and dialogue, the placement of characters and establishing shots, sound effects. You're good, better than a heap of beginners I've seen, but you have a lot farther to go. You've got the "manga style" down but you haven't found your style within it yet.
"How dare I call you a beginner!?" I am too even though even though I've been drawing manga for the past ten years. I'll say it again, you're good but if you're going to be a serious artist, you're going to have to take it seriously. (And get some Bristol! ) _________________

Have you ever heard the term "eyeballing?" It means you take an original picture of someone elses, look at it, and copy it. Sometimes you change small things like clothing/hair or part of a pose. Most of your art looks either entirely or partially eyeballed. Some of the telltale signs of someone who eyeballs are:
-The lines are drawn with little variation in weight
-The poses and folds could be professional if they weren't so off. It's someone drawng something without knowing why it's that way.
-A huge difference in skill between one picture and another (drawn within a short period of time) one will look a lot better because it's eyeballed, while the other (an actual original picture by the same artist) is not as interesting, the pose is not as complex, etc...it will show less drawing skill in general.
-Arrogance, showing off, etc...I don't know of a single person who has gone through years and years of practice, study, and critique as an artist and is still arrogant. You learn to be humble, openminded through harsh critiques. Also, experienced artists have the knowledge to see most of the flaws in their own work.
-Radically different styles on various pictures: even when drawing fanart, you can usually see an artist's personal style hinted at in a drawing. A lot of your pictures looks blatantly ripped/changed slightly from series such as "Love Hina,"(perhaps another of Ken Akamatsu's works) and the picture of the big-eyed girl in the skirt doesn't look like it was drawn by you at all.
I'm almost certain that most of your pictures are eyeballed, but if they're not, then don't take it personally. I agree with what the others have said about not having a huge group to make a comic. If nothing else, it would be a pain in the butt to have to schedule certain times for everyone to be online so you could get anything done. _________________ Look mommy, I'm gonna be an exsphere! |

Wesley: YOUR VERY FIRST POST BRIGHTENED MY DAY!!! IT'S ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!
That said, I know from other people's experiences that it's very difficult to assemble a team over the internet if they're people you've never met in real life. People drop out, they don't work, or they have all kinds of reasons why they can't finish something.
You can probably go to TP's site and check the employment options they have for an artist, or submit your work and see what they say.
GOOD LUCK!!! _________________

And before some people get there panties in a bundle... I said that my drawing are to a higher level, meaning higher than they were before and not the ulmite holy grail.

Hey, I didn't reply on this thread last time (although I was tempted to) because I'm personally already teamed up with a writer, so I thought it might be a bit pointless.
I have to say, like most, I'm pretty amazed by your self confidence, especially after this latest post, so I can't help myself now ^^;
Basically, I think that if you truly want to improve (which you obviously haven't, looking at your deviantart page), you have to let go of your attitude towards yourself and your work. Self confidence is fantastic, it can drive people to incredibly high levels, and help inform everything you do, but there is a difference between self confidence and arrogance.
If you are self confident, you must be confident not in your current ability, but in your potential ability. You must be aware, not (never!) that you are the best, but that you can be the best. And you should also recognise that you can always improve, and always move your art forward, beyond anything that you or anyone else has ever considered.
Your attitude is holding your work back because you are constantly satisfied with what you've just done. So basically, this isn't a critique of your work (which I think might be a bit useless at this stage), but a critique of the way you think about it. I know that wasn't what you asked for, but I hope you take this seriously, and consider it properly.
I'm saying this not because I'm annoyed by you, but because I think you actually have (currently wasted) potential, and because I recognise similar things (problems?) within myself. I, like you, like to think I know what I'm talking about... but one thing I'm always willing to do is take into consideration the deeper implications of people's words regarding myself, and constantly strive to be better and more than what I am now... _________________

Yea... your my idol now. The fact that you can use photoshop and the appeal of colors to win your audiance is amazing to me. Your colors are all i really see and what to be able to do becuase... I dont really thing that you have a style of your own muchless a lineart something.
It is very easy to put someone down when they are not in your league instead of matching yourself with those of your same talent and then comparing. If you think my art is trash then by all means do so lineart or sketches and watch me put it to shame. I might not be god but I be a swing before I let someone that not in my league put me down and make pokemon cliques at me. MOP... FLOOR.... YOU!! |

Wow, sorry, I didn't catch that.
Are you implying that you are in any way superior to the awesomeness that is TEH spoonbard, who, we might like to mention, has already won RSoM UK and can essentially get a book deal with TP any time he wants? (sorry if I've inconvenienced you in any way with this statement, spoonbard)
I mean, sorry, I might have misunderstood, because your forced and oversized diction/syntax don't really fit well with your complete lack of grammar/punctuation.
I don't LIKE to be harsh, but you know what? I really wish someone had butt-whapped me when I was your age (which I would guess is about 13 given your cockiness), so I'll say this. SHRINK YOUR HEAD PLEASE; you're cocky and while you may be "good" to some extent, you don't have the skills to back up your big talk. Ever notice that of all the TP mangaka and RSoM winners here, not one goes around with this sort of "I'm-infinitely-better-than-you" speak (except in jest)?
*sighs*
Sorry mods, I'll shut up now. For now. |

I would also just like to briefly point out that one does not have to be a better artist in order to a give an (honest and often correct) critique to a different artist. Please do not assume that because someone finds something wrong with your art, it's because they're worse than you and are just jealous.
'Cause if only better artists can give critique, the editors should be the ones drawing all the books. _________________
