The latest issue of Animerica came with a letter explaining that the magazine would be no longer available for subscription and that the remaining issues in subscriptions would be replaced with Shojo Beat.

I liked the magazine myself. Even though I didn't read half the articles, it was fun to just flip through it every month and see what's new. Shojo Beat, though, isn't a bad replacement. |

I find that hard to believe. This wasn't the April Issue, was it? Because there's a holiday for liars in that month, and that seems like a good PR stunt to promote shoujo beat.
Animerica's site doesn't say anything about it that I can find (their site has been redesigned since I saw it last saw it, too), though it does mention Shoujo Beat. They're kind of tied up with Viz, and I can't imagine Viz losing enough money to constitute dropping the magazine entirely. There are only two real anime magazines, and that one's been around longer than Newtype USA.
[edit] Well, I guess it IS true. Just.....stupid.

| I found it hard to believe myself and I still don't understand why. From what I've found they also cancelled Animerica Extra around December of last year. I didn't subscribe to it but I guess I do remember not seeing any ads for it since then. I hope their plan is to spread more conventions across the country since that's the format they want to distribute in. We only get comic con here in kc and I personally don't care to go to cons a lot anyways. I hope this works out for the better. |
